Fujitsu Offers Cost Saving Solutions for Broadcasters Converting News Gathering Systems from MPEG-2 to AVC Encoding

New IP-9400 MPEG-4 Encoder Significantly Reduces Operational Costs while Increasing Workflow Efficiency and Offering Superior Picture Quality and Lowest Possible Latency

Foothill Ranch, CA, January 19, 2010 —
Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products including peripherals, biometric security solutions and digital media solutions, today announced the IP-9400, a new MPEG-4 encoder that reduces operational costs significantly as broadcasters convert from MPEG-2 to AVC encoding in their high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) microwave, satellite and IP digital news gathering systems. The payback for the economy priced IP-9400 is extremely short, helping broadcasters increase workflow efficiency while ensuring superior HD and SD content fidelity with the added benefit of low latency, essential to remote live feeds.

“In today’s economic climate, broadcasters are looking at ways to cut costs whenever possible and at the same time improving performance and operational capability. Fujitsu is offering broadcasters all of these benefits in the IP-9400 as they upgrade their HD microwave, satellite and IP digital news gathering systems,” said Kunio Konishi, director of product management, media solutions, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. “The new IP-9400—along with all of our other MPEG-4 encoders—provides customers with the best overall value to meet demanding budget constraints while offering industry-leading performance capabilities at any given price point. We listened carefully to industry needs, and Fujitsu is doing more than just listening—we have delivered.”

The IP-9400 is an economically priced 4:2:0 AVC encoder with optional built in DVB-S/S2 modulator, specifically targeted at the efficient conversion from MPEG-2 to AVC encoding in microwave, satellite and IP digital news gathering systems. The new solution utilizes advanced Fujitsu technology innovation to support customers, significantly reducing operational cost, increasing workflow efficiency and improving the fidelity of content contribution and distribution.

“The Fujitsu MPEG-4 AVC encoders are among the most advanced and highest-performing in the industry, and the IP-9400 will deliver the same video and audio performance, low latency and other advantages that customers have come to expect from Fujitsu,” said Michelle Abraham, Principal Analyst at In-Stat. “The Fujitsu technology also helps to reduce overall operational costs, which addresses a real problem for broadcasters across the globe—how to reduce cost without adversely affecting performance. We anticipate wide-spread adoption of the IP-9400 as broadcasters upgrade their HD and SD microwave, satellite and IP digital news gathering systems.”
